About:
Gregory Hutter holds degrees from Western Michigan University (BM), the University of Michigan (MM), the University of Illinois (MLIS), and Northwestern University (DM). For nearly two decades he served on the music faculties at DePaul University (2002-2019) and the University of Illinois at Chicago (2013-2020). His compositions have been performed by the Moravian Philharmonic, the Kiev Philharmonic, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, Camerata Chicago, Musica Moderna (Poland),the Martinů Quartet, the Cassatt String Quartet, the Maia String Quartet, the Julstrom String Quartet, Trio Callisto, the Carpe Diem Quartet, The Leos Strings (U.K), Duo Diorama, the Society for New Music (Syracuse), the Philovox Ensemble (Boston), Kantorei (Denver), the Seattle Bach Choir, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, pianists Winston Choi and Matthew McCright, DUO: Stephanie & Saar, Pinotage, Musica Nova (Israel), and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), among others. Hutter has been the recipient of numerous awards and commissions, in addition to receiving grants and fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council, the MacDowell Colony, the American Music Center and the Meet the Composer Foundation. His debut full-length solo CD was released as part of the Naxos ‘American Classics’ series in 2008. His second full-length solo CD consisting of secular choral music was released by Naxos in 2019. Individual compositions have also been recorded on various labels including Capstone Records, Navona Records and Innova Recordings. His music is available in print from Subito Music Distribution and E.C. Schirmer. Hutter’s many distinguished teachers have included Ramon Zupko, C. Curtis-Smith, Michael Daugherty, William Bolcom, Evan Chambers, M. William Karlins, Alan Stout and Marta Ptaszynska.
